Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour urged Arab League General Secretary Nabil al-Arabi on Friday to hold an urgent session to support Lebanon's efforts to aid the Syrian innigrants on its territories.
Mansour made a phone call with Al-Arabi, who informed the Minister that he will be doing all necessary calls with Arab ministers to hold a meeting on the situation of immigrants in Lebanon in the coming days, a statement of Foreign Ministry said.
The phone conversation came a day after the cabinet decided on Thursday to urge the Arab League and international organizations to hold extraordinary meetings to highlight the situation of the refugees.
Lebanon has presided over the Arab League Ministerial Council for a six-month period starting September 5.
On Dec. 3, 2012, Lebanon had asked donor countries to finance a plan prepared by the government to meet the needs of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon in 2013 which costs about $ 363 million.
The amount is distributed between $ 179 million handled by the Lebanese ministries to fulfill the needs of Syrian refugees in terms of health, food and education, while $ 184 million handled by UN agencies and includes the needs of Palestinian refugees displaced from Syria to Lebanon.
According to ministerial sources, Lebanon has received some financial contributions, but they are not sufficient to implement the plan.
