Four tribesmen from a militia which supports the Pakistani government against militants were shot dead Wednesday on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar, police said.
The incident happened in the village of Badaber where residents found the blood-soaked and bullet-ridden bodies in a house that had been rented by the victims, tribesmen from the tribal district of Khyber.
"Unknown gunmen shot dead four men in Badaber. We suspect they were killed because they were the members of a lashkar (militia) against militants," senior police official Javed Khan told AFP.
The tribesmen were from the Khyber town of Bara but were living in Badaber and were sleeping when they were shot, Khan said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
