Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei pardoned and commuted jail terms of 1,298 inmates, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei pardoned and commuted jail terms of 1,298 inmates, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the messenger of mercifulness.
The amnesty was granted by the Leader in response to a letter from Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani.
Larijani made the proposal after a special commission monitoring behavior of the inmates at prisons endorsed they are qualified for the amnesty.
Tuesday, January 29, 2013, marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the end of the Islamic Unity Week which Imam Ruhollah Khomeini announced following the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This year, the occasion occurs close to the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations which mark the 34th anniversary of Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979 which toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime.
