Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on Sunday congratulated Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the anniversary of the Victory of the Islamic Revolution, SANA reported.
The Syrian news agency said “President Assad expressed, on behalf of the Syrian people and on his own behalf, heartfelt and best wishes to President Ahmadinejad and the friendly people of Iran.”
In parallel, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Mikdad considered that “the Iranian revolution was a great event in the region.”
Speaking at a celebration of the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Mikdad pointed out that “the Iranian revolution has converted all the equations in the region, after the US and other countries were trying to make Iran inferior to Israel and the Shah.”
He further considered that “the bright image of the Iranian revolution is embodied in its support to the Arab causes,” hailing the Iranian political and economic support to Syria.
On the Syrian crisis, Miqdad indicated that “Syria is fighting a war on behalf of all honest Muslims against the enemies of Arabism and Islam,” highlighting that “the political program symbolizes the ambition of the Syrian leadership to reach a solution to the crisis in Syria through dialogue and reconciliation.”
For his part, Iranian Ambassador in Damascus Mohammad Riza Shebani stated that “Syria's enemies were broken before Syria’s resistance,” stressing that “the Syrian crisis could be solved through the halt of violence.”
