Japan, along with 10 EU countries have been exempted from commitment to oil sanctions against Iran, Mehr news agency reported.
Reuters quoted a US official saying that US had plans to extend the exemption plan of Japan and 10 other EU countries from oil sanctions against Iran.
The extension would give these countries exemption from punishments put by the US to those who trade with Iran. A Congress aide told Reuters that they expected exemptions for all 11 countries are extended.
A source in the US Congress confirmed the news.
Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherland, Poland, Spain, and Britain are exempt from punishment for violating oil sanctions against Iran. The US had exempted China and India for their decreasing oil imports from Iran, and extended the exemptions twice.
