A hardliner, who has constantly supported expanding the settlement process to establish a greater “Israel” that encompasses all Palestine, was named to succeed Ehud Barak, according to a statement issued by the Likud party.
"In a period so critical to the security of the state of Israel, with all the region around us in turmoil, it is important that this position be filled by a man so rich in experience as Moshe Yaalon," Netanyahu said in the statement.
"In the name of all the citizens of Israel, I wish him success," he further said.
Netanyahu had formally notified Saturday eveing, the Zionist entity’s President Shimon Peres that he had formed a new government, which will be sworn in on Monday, just two days before the arrival of US President Barack Obama.
