The fate of leader of the so-called “Free Syrian Army” Riad Al-Asaad is still unknown after an explosion targeted his car in Al-Mayadeen city in Deir Al-Zour east Aleppo.
The “Syrian Revolution Coordination” announced over the internet that Asaad was targeted and was severely injured, so he was immediately moved in a helicopter for treatment in Turkey.
For his part, “General Coordinator of the Syrian Revolution” Saad Al-Aqidi announced the death of Asaad in a car bomb which was planted under his car seat while he was in a field tour in that area.
Aqidi further stated that "Syrian Opposition Council" member Barakat Howeish was with Asaad and he was wounded in the explosion.
In contrast AFP quoted Syrian Observatory for Human Rights watchdog director Rami Abdel Rahman as saying that Asaad was only “injured in the blast that hit his car in eastern Syria.”
