Premier-designate Tammam Slam said he had received a personal congratulation from Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah over his designation.
Salam noted that a Hezbollah delegation sent him Sayyed Nasrallah's greetings, wishing him success in his new task and urging him to do what requires inorder to protect the country.
In an interview with Lebanese daily al-Akhbar, Salam stressed on the importance of having consensus over the formation of new government.
The Beirut MP said that the government should be formed swiftly. He noted that the only task of this government is to carry out the elections, vowing to quit if this task was hindered.
“The mission of my cabinet will be supervising the polls... The suitable solution is to form a cabinet that none of its members will run for the elections,” Salam said in the interview which was published on Tuesday.
“I was appointed for one mission to supervise the polls, I wasn't named to obstruct it or form a political cabinet,” he added.
He pointed out that he is not seeking the post of premiership, stressing that he was chosen to save the country. “I am not holding on to power,” he said.
Salam also said that he would not run for the coming parliamentary elections.
“When I was asked to abandon my parliamentary seat in Beirut… I was to decide whether to supervise the parliamentary elections and 128 seats in order to save my country.. or to think about a single seat in Beirut. At that time I favored the first choice,” he told al-Akhbar.
