The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has strongly condemned any threats and actions against its member states under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

NAM emblemThe Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has strongly condemned any threats and actions against its member states under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

“The Non-Aligned Movement rejects any threats and measures against the movement’s members under the pretext of countering terrorism and stresses that terrorism should not be equated with the right to legitimate resistance against occupation and colonialism,” said Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative at the UN Gholam-Hussein Dehqani.

The Iranian envoy was speaking on behalf of the NAM, the rotating presidency of which is held by Iran. He made the remark in an address to the UN Ad Hoc Committee Negotiating Comprehensive Anti-terrorism Convention on Monday.

Dehghani called on all countries to refrain from providing political, diplomatic, moral or material support for terrorism.

He reiterated that the NAM considers terrorist acts the violations of international laws and human rights and strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms.

He also noted terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality or ethnic group.

The Iranian envoy further called for an international conference under the UN’s supervision to formulate a joint response to terrorism.
