Lavrov says that discussions with Western countries show that these side are understanding the growing dangers of events taking place in Syria.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the leadership of the foreign-backed armed opposition in Syria is not unified, noting that discussions with Western countries show that these side are understanding the growing dangers of events taking place in Syria.
Lavrov made remarks during a press conference held at the conclusion of the meeting of NATO-Russia Council in Brussels on Tuesday.
"Today's discussions and the discussions over the past weeks and months indicate increased understanding, particularly by the Western countries towards the growing dangers of what is taking place in Syria,” Russia Today Channel quoted Lavrov as saying during the press conference.
"As we see today there is no unified leadership of the Syrian opposition, while various groups are fighting in the ranks of the armed opposition alongside the so-called the free army," Lavrov said.
He added that there are other groups including al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front that “count on fighting until a decisive end of the conflict."
RT also reported that Lavrov discussed with his US Secretary of State, John Kerry, the situation in Syria and issues of Russian-American cooperation.
