Iran said it was ready to train the Syrian army if there is a need to do so, but noted that the move would not have any involvement of the Iranian army in the operations.
The commander of the Islamic republic's army ground forces, General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, announced the suggestion on Sunday.
“As a Muslim nation, we back Syria, and if there is need for training we will provide them with the training, but won't have any active involvement in the operations Pourdastan, was quoted as saying.
However, he said that the Syrian army ”has accumulated experience during years of conflict with the Zionist regime and is able to defend itself and doesn't need foreign assistance.”
Pourdastan’s remarks come few hours after the Zionist entity staged a series of airstrikes on the Syrian capital Damascus, targeting a research center in Jamraya.
