Egypt: ousted President Hosni Mubarak behind barsEgyptian ousted President Hosni Mubarak appeared at court in Cairo for the first session of his retrial over charges of responsibility for killing protestors and corruption, state TV reported on Saturday.

Mubarak's two sons Alaa and Gamal, along with former interior minister Habib al-Adli and top former police officials appeared inside the dock before the ex-president entered the courtroom on a chair.

Before the session kicked off, some skirmishes took place between lawyers of Mubarak and his men and their opponents who demanded Mubarak's execution, causing a state of disorder inside the courtroom.

The session started around 10:20 a.m. local time (08:20 GMT) and presiding Judge Mahmoud Kamel al-Rashidi asked Mubarak if he approves the presence of some volunteer Kuwaiti lawyers who wanted to join the session and defend him.

"I refer the issue to my lawyer Farid al-Deeb," Mubarak replied.

For his part, Deeb declined the Kuwaiti lawyers' initiative and thanked them.

Mubarak was ousted in 2011 following wide protests across the Egypt demanding a regime change.
