United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his worries about the Israeli decision to restrict access to holy sites in East Jerusalem with the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
Ban pointed to the recent troubles in East Jerusalem during which the Zionist soldiers used stun grenades and water cannons on Wednesday against Palestinians who were protesting for the 65th anniversary of Al-Nakba (Catastrophe).
He further expressed his concerns particularly about the restrictions of access to Muslim and Christian holy sites.
The UN leader stressed in his talks with the Zionist official that the Zionist entity has to abide by obligations of the international humanitarian law.
Ban also discussed recovering the so-called peace process with Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas. Also, he “firmly encouraged Netanyahu and Abbas to resume direct talks frozen since September 2010, hoping that this would lead to a serious political initiative to move forward towards a comprehensive settlement.”
Finally, Ban confirmed to both leaders the importance of respect for the religious freedom of all and that the worshippers of all faiths must have access to all holy sites.
