Iran’s Presidency Final Candidates: Mashaei, Rafsanjani Disqualified

The Guardian Council has qualified 8 candidates for the June 14 presidential elections.

Iranian presidential elections' candidates, 2013The Guardian Council has qualified 8 candidates for the June 14 presidential elections, while disqualifying former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and a close aide to President Mahmoud Ahadinejad, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie, from running elections, state media reported on Tuesday.

According to Article 60 of Presidential Elections Law, secretary of Country’s Elections Headquarters Sayyed Soulat Mortazavi announced the names of the eight approved candidates for the 11th Presidential Election of the 11th Islamic Republic presidential elections.

The final candidates are:
1. Saeed Jalili
2. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf
3. Gholamali Haddad Adel
4. Ali Akbar Velayati
5. Hassan Ruhani
6. Mohammad Gharazi
7. Mohsen Rezaei
8. Mohammad Reza Aref.

The Guardian Council will announce the official list on Wednesday.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency said on May 15 that around 100 lawmakers sent a petition to the Guardians Council, which vets potential candidates, to disqualify Rafsanjani and Mashaei.
