Charbel said he held, along with General Security Chief Abbas Ibrahim, constructive talks in Turkey over the issue of Lebanese abductees
Lebanese caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said he held, along with General Security Chief Abbas Ibrahim, constructive talks in Turkey over the issue of Lebanese abductees who were kidnapped by foreign-backed militants in Syria’s Aleppo last year.
Charbel said in remarks, shortly after his return from Turkey on Saturday, that talks with Turkish and Qatari sides were "constructive and based on a mechanism that will lead to releasing the Lebanese pilgrims held in Aazaz as soon as possible.”
“During the meetings, we discussed, in details, the list of the names of the detainees that the Turkish authorities received from the kidnappers and submitted to the Lebanese side. All the errors in the list were also examined to be followed up so that this issue would be ended,” Charbel said.
Eleven pilgrims were kidnapped by the Syrian armed opposition in May 2012 in northern Syrian province of Aleppo as they returned by land from visiting the holy shrines in Iran. Two of them were released in August and September.
