Lebanese caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel announced that the fighters in Tripoli stopped abiding by the orders of their political leaders

Marwan CharbelCaretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel announced that the fighters in Tripoli stopped abiding by the orders of their political leaders.

“Most of the militants are behaving independently from the political will to end the struggle,” Charbel said while heading the meeting of the Central Security Council.

Fielding a question on the security measures in Tripoli, Charbel stated that the authorities can take strict measures against the militants to stop the conflict, yet this would be costly for the residents.

“We can hit the gunmen with an iron fist and this issue has been discussed by the Higher Defense Council."

“The army and the security forces are behaving wisely,” he stressed.

Clashes renewed in Tripoli and left 6 killed and dozens wounded.

The northern Lebanese city suffers completely militarized settings as tension remains dominant amid continued intermittent sniping operations on different axes of fighting.

In parallel, the Islamic National Gathering held a meeting Tuesday at al-Mustaqbal MP Mohammad Kabbara’s residence in Tripoli.

The lawmaker accused President Michel Sleiman, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Army commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji of collusion.

“The residents of the city will have to defend themselves if the battles continued,” Kabbara threatened.

Al-Manar correspondent reported that Lebanese army has been deployed in Jabal Mohsen on Tuesday.

Tripoli city has so far witnessed around 17 rounds of fighting.
