Lebanese President Michel Sleiman is mulling with his legal advisers the possibility of filing a lawsuit against Tripoli MP Mohammad Kabbara, who is a member of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, on charges of insulting the Presidency and the Army Command.
On Tuesday, Kabbara voiced “regret” that Sleiman, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Army Commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji seem to be colluded with the Syrian regime.
He was reciting a statement issued by the National Islamic Gathering following a meeting that was held at his residence in the northern city to discuss the clashes between the rival Tripoli neighborhoods of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh.
Kabbara called on the Lebanese President, Mikati, Qahwaji and the army to “shoulder their responsibilities” and prove that they are “seriously entrusted with the country's unity and the safety of its people.”
Seven people were killed and more than 40 wounded in clashes that erupted Sunday in Tripoli. Sniper activity is still ongoing in the conflict zone despite a heavy deployment by the army.
