The candidate for the Iranian presidential elections Gholamali Haddad-Adel withdrew in favor of the Conservatives as Mohammad Reza Aref was set to quit the presidential elections that will be held on June 14 leaving Hassan Rouhani as the sole Reformist candidate.

“I will keep helping the Conservatives despite my withdrawal,” Adel said in a statement on Monday.

Adel added that he studied the conditions of the elections before he decided to pull out. He further hoped that his decision would help the Conservatives to win the elections. Adel also called on the Iranians to participate effectively in the elections.

Mohammad Reza Aref further will withdraw in favor of the Reformist Hassan Rouhani in light of an electoral alliance between the two candidates.

The agreement was held between all the Reformists to choose Rouhani as the sole Reformist candidate. The agreement also stipulates that Aref will be vice president in case Rouhani won the elections.
