Qatar is preparing to launch a leadership transition this summer to the crown prince “Tamim Bin Hamad”,33, where the Foreign Minister Hamad Bin Jassem is also scheduled to step down as prime minister, the UK Daily Telegraph reported Monday.
Within weeks of that decision, the royal court will announce that the emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, who has struggled with health problems, will cede powers to the Sandhurst-educated crown prince who is closely linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, the news paper said.
British Military Academy (Sandhurst College) is known for being a factory of British intelligence agents of the ruling dynasties in the Arab and Muslim worlds, since its establishment in 1947 till nowadays.
“The succession plan, which is due to be launched by the end of the month, will see Hamad bin Jassim, the prime minister and one of the biggest investors in Britain, give up his post,” the news paper stated.
“A prominent British visitor to the gas-rich Gulf state was told of the plans earlier this year, and sources said other key states, including the US and Iran, have also been briefed about the succession,” it added.
The British newspaper didn’t explain the reason behind coupling the step down of the Emir and that of the Foreign Minister. But analysts believe it is undoubtedly related to the fear that the cousin conspires against the son if he is to remain Prime Minister.
Representatives of the Qatar government were not able to comment on the discussions about the emirate's future leadership, but British analysts told the daily that any changes in Qatar's leadership would have huge implications for the Middle East and Western foreign policy.
Syria Truth website quoted monitors in the “European Center for Near East Studies and Researches in London” that linking "the power transition in this period to health reasons is logically unjustified, given that the Emir of Qatar does not suffer serious health problems that prevent him from practicing authorities."
The observers asserted that "it was an order released in Washington to keep the Prince and its PM away from the political scene within the U.S. political and security arrangements carried out in oil and gas colonies as part of regional arrangements amid understanding with Moscow, given that those arrangements cannot room hooligans.”
“Moreover, the news about Qatar support for terrorist-takfirist organizations starts to bother Washington itself, which was originally behind their generation starting from Afghanistan during the late eighties and till today."
Sheikh Hamad, the current emir, took power in a bloodless coup in 1995, taking advantage of his father's absence on a trip to Europe. In modern history, Qatar played a key role in providing arms and logistics for militiamen in Libya and Syria.
