The Iranian presidential elections will start within less than 24 hours where more than 40 million voters will choose their seventh President after the victory achieved by the Islamic Revolution.
The electoral law of Iran requires that all hopefuls’ propagandas to be silenced before 24 hours from opening the ballot boxes. The Iranian voters draw the world attention since they are going to choose a new President who will rule Iran for a 4-year mandate.
The competition was supposed to be run between the eight candidates who were approved by the ministry of interior as they matched the legal requirements set by the Guardia Council.
Yet, after the withdrawal of the Reformist Mohammad Reza Aref and the Conservative Gholamali Haddad-Adel, six candidates will stand for the electoral race: Saeed Jalili, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Ali Akbar Velayati, Hasan Rouhani, Mohsen Rezai and Mohammad Gharazi.
It is expected that some of the Conservative hopefuls withdraw in the few coming hours.
The Iranian presidential elections enjoy local and international media coverage due to the unexpected surprises that often characterize this event.
Earlier in June, Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei stressed that upcoming elections should create a political epic in the country, as enemies are striving hard to decrease people's turnout through various means and plots.
“Votes for any candidate of Presidential Election would be confidence votes for Islamic Republic and election’s authenticity,” his eminence said.
It’s worth to mention that the Iranian Grand Ayatollahs, as well as the lawmakers, urged the Iranian people to participate heavily and effectively in the elections to sustain the Islamic regime against the enemy’s attempt to distort its reputation.
