Syria: FSA chief of staff Salim IdrisDiplomatic sources stated that Western officials will meet on Saturday the so-called ‘Free Syrian Army’ chief of staff, Salim Idris, to discuss the new package of aids the West plans to offer for the Syrian opposition groups, Russia Today website reported.

The Western countries have so far avoided sending weapons to the Syrian opposition directly and publicly.

In the same context, Reuters news agency said that the officials will meet Idris in northern Turkey.

"Idris needs money, ammunition and weapons in order to strengthen its leadership and reputation in the ranks of the fighters," Reuters quoted one of the diplomats as saying.

Syria was hit by a violent unrest since mid-March 2011, where the Syrian government accuses foreign actors of orchestrating the conflict, by supporting the militant opposition groups with arms and money.
