The Kuwaiti National Assembly condemned on Thursday the sectarian speech of Kuwaiti Sheikh Shafi al-Ajami who promoted sectarian killing in Syria.
The Kuwaiti Parliament issued a statement which considered that the attempts to exploit the crisis in Syria aim at stirring up the sectarian tensions in Kuwait.
The statement further called on the government to take strict measures against the “stray calls and extremist behaviors” in the country.
“Some Kuwaitis are exploiting the Syrian crisis to inflame sectarianism and to move the battlefield to our peaceful country,” the statement stated.
The Kuwaiti Parliament also asked all the Kuwaitis “to nip the sedition before it escalates” and called upon the government to strictly punish those who promote the speech of hatred and threaten national unity.
This statement came in response to the sectarian speech of Kuwaiti Sheikh Shafi al-Ajami before the Lebanese embassy in Kuwait on Tuesday.
Shafi al-Ajami promoted the massacre that was committed in Deir Ezzor against the Syrian civilians for religious reasons. He also urged killing on sectarian and religious bases in Syria.
