German Chancellor Angela Merkel called Friday on the United Nations Security Council to hold an urgent meeting to take a unified stance on the Syrian crisis as the United States expressed its readiness to arm the militant groups and to impose a no-fly zone in Syria.
“We have to take a unified stand on Syria, and holding a peace conference keeps the best option in tackling this issue,” Merkel told BBC.
She added that Germany still believes that arming the Syrian militants must be banned.
