Israeli Defense Minister urged tougher sanctions against Iran, regardless of who is elected in the Islamic Republic’s 11th presidential vote.
The enemy public radio quoted Yaalon as saying on Saturday: “We must toughen the sanctions against Iran and make this country understand that the military option remains on the table to halt the progress of its dangerous nuclear program.”
Yaalon claimed that Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution “will decide who gets elected,” as initial results show reformist candidate, Sheikh Hasan Rouhani in the lead of the results.
Meanwhile, a Pentagon statement confirmed that Yaalon discussed Iran in talks with US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Friday but gave few details.
Hagel and Yaalon "reaffirmed that the United States and Israel will continue to work together to counter threats posed by Iran and remain prepared for a range of contingencies," the statement said.
The Zionist entity is the Middle East's sole, if undeclared, nuclear power and has made preventing Iran from developing its nuclear program, although the Islamic Republic assures its program is aimed at peaceful uses of energy.
