Suicide Attack Kills Five in Damascus

Five Syrians were martyred on Sunday and nine others were injured as suicide bombers tried to enter a police department and a criminal security branch in Damascus.

Five Syrians were martyred on Sunday and nine others were injured as suicide bombers tried to enter a police department and a criminal security branch in Damascus.

A statement by the Interior Ministry clarified that three suicide bombers blew themselves up at around 8:45 am as they tried to enter the building of the Police Department of Rukn Eddin neighborhood in Damascus.

"The Police Department members clashed with the bombers and confronted them," said the Ministry's statement issued Sunday, according to official news agency , SANA.

It added that three other suicide bombers wearing suicide belts tried at 9:30 am to enter the Criminal Security Department in Damascus, but were repelled by the Department's members.

"The bombers were killed with their suicide belts going off before they were able to enter the building," the statement said.

The Interior Ministry pointed out that the initial death toll of the terrorist bombings is five martyrs, in addition to 9 injured, including civilians and military members.

Separately, al-Manar correspondent reported that three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were exploded near the criminal security branch in Damascus' Bab Mousallah Square.
