“Prince Hamad has the intention to abandon the national authority to his son Prince Tamim,” Aljazeera channel mentioned.
It added that Hamad met the ruling family and informed its influential members about his decision.
Qatar news agency said that Tuesday will be a public off day in Qatar.

Prince Hamad took the authority in June 1995 after a bloodless coup he carried out, assisted by the U.S., to dethrone his father Prince Khalifa who was in Switzerland.
Hamad strengthened Qatar’s relations with U.S. and the Zionist entity. He granted the U.S. the largest military base in the Middle East which was heavily used by the Americans against Iraq and Afghanistan.
It is noteworthy that Sheikh Tamim was born in 1980. He serves as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and heads the Qatar Olympic Committee.
