Kuwait says parliamentary elections will take place Thursday July 27, two days later than originally scheduled in case the constitutional court finalized its decisions concerning the voting law and the date of the elections.
The voting was initially set for Tuesday July 25 after a court decision dissolved the chamber over flaws in the balloting law of December elections.
Opposition factions boycotted parliamentary elections in December, claiming new voting rules favored Kuwait's ruling family and were imposed without public debate.
This month the constitutional court invalidated the 50-seat chamber over technicalities in the election rules. It upheld the contested regulations for a one-person, one-vote system in place of the former rules that allowed voters to cast ballots for multiple candidates.
Opposition further decided to boycott the coming elections as it refuses the one-person, one-vote balloting system.
