A Russian policeman was killed and 13 others injured in a clash erupted Sunday while security forces were chasing armed gang in Chechnya, Russia Today news website reported.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement that clash took place near the town of Khrsenaua in the Shatoi region of Chechnya.

“One of the injured died of his wounds after being taken to hospital,” the statement read.

The ministry added that the security men continued chasing militants in the forest-clad mountainous area which is difficult to access.
