The Lebanese Army handed over on Saturday the Mosque of Bilal Bin Rabah to a delegation of Muslim Scholars headed by Sidon Mufti Sheikh Salim Sousan.
The delegation toured Ahmad al-Assir’s Complex in Sidon’s eastern neighborhood of Abra, which witnessed fierce clashes between the Lebanese Army and Assir’s armed partisans last week.
“This Mosque will return to play its role in serving Islam and Muslims. It will return to play its role in coexistence,” Sheikh Sousan said noting that the new Imam of the Mosque will be Sheikh Mohammad Abu Zeid.
“The army and the rest of the city's officials will cooperate in order to restore order and normal life in Sidon,” the Muftti stressed.
“We oppose the illegitimate arms and support the army. We demand a society of law and order,” Sheikh Sousan said as he asked about the discovery of weapons at the mosque.
“Israel is our only enemy,” he said further.
In a related context, State Commissioner to the Military Court, Judge Saqr Saqr visited the intelligence department where he supervised the investigations with the arrested people in Abra events.
He said that 29 people were released, while other 39 people were still arrested by the Lebanese Army.
