"Warplanes carried out two consecutive raids against the militants’ areas under siege in Homs city, and carried out heavy shelling against the same targets," confirmed information mentioned.

The Syrian State TV announced that the army achieved a great field progress during the “decisive” campaign and killed a large number of militants.

Internet videos showed the explosions and the smoke that rose from the hideouts of the Syrian militants.

The opposition sources acknowledged the army’s progress and mentioned that the Syrian troops are using mortar shells, rockets, tank shells, and heavy artillery in the attack.

Earlier on Thursday, Syrian army took the town of Al-Qariatayn, in Homs province as part of a wider campaign to gain ground in the central region.

This offensive enables the Syrian army to take control over the city of Homs after regaining its countryside in Qusayr in May.
